Championship side Bolton Wanderers have quickly taken the option to sign Lloyd Dyer on a short-term basis after it was confirmed that Sammy Ameobi had sustained a serious ankle injury. Ameobi suffered the damage during the recent 2-1 defeat at the hands of Queens Park Rangers and initial suggestions claimed that he could return in about a months’ time.
However, after a thorough examination of the damage, manager Phil Parkinson has confirmed that the former Newcastle United graduate could miss up to six weeks and this played a part in their decision to sign Dyer on a free transfer, he said: “With Sammy’s injury lay off being longer than we first anticipated, it was important that we have more options. Lloyd’s experience of playing as a left wing back will give us more cover if we decide to play with a back three.”
