Bolton Wanderers have recently been boosted by two back-to-back victories and this appears to have given manager Neil Lennon confidence that his team can progress to the fifth round of the FA Cup.
Bolton are against Leeds United at home, where they have struggled throughout the season, but a home win can ensure that Bolton are able to make up for the league struggles with some FA Cup joy for the fans. The club remains five points adrift of safety after recently getting a massive three point against MK Dons in the league.
Coupled with the troubles on the pitch, Bolton have also been struggling off the pitch due to financial issues. There is a danger of the club winding up if they are unable to pay the huge debts that recently crossed the figure of £ 150 million. Bolton are desperately in need of funds and this could come in the form of a FA cup run. If Bolton manages to draw against a big team away from home in the fifth round, they could potentially be looking at around £ 1 million in cash injection. This additional income will help them retain the players while also managing to reduce the debt.
Lennon, though, is not worried about the cash figures and is only concentrating on beating Leeds. “Our confidence has lifted after two good home wins and we’ve got a really exciting one to look forward to now. It should be a release from all that. There will be a great atmosphere – and that’s not saying it hasn’t been good already – but there is something different about a cup game.Leeds will bring a good few thousand. It’s an opportunity to progress in the cup and we’re excited by what’s ahead of us,” said Lennon prior to the match.
