Bolton manager Neil Lennon feels that recruitment in the upcoming transfer window will be a crucial aspect in the club’s future going forward.
Bolton have failed to get promoted back into the Premier League in the last few seasons. There is a danger of the club getting trapped in the second division of English football if they don’t take advantage of the parachute payments that still flow in. The club were relegated into the second tier after the 2011/12 season. The parachute payments will continue until next season and it is already down to just £ 9.6 million per year.
This is unlikely to be of much help when it comes to reducing the incredible debt surrounding the club. The only way of managing to reduce the burden along with getting a promotion challenge going is by recruiting sensibly. Lennon is planning to do this by scouting across Europe and probably around the world in order to find gems that have been missed by scouts. This would enable the club to develop young players and then later sell them on for potential profits. In the hope of revamping the squad with young names, Bolton have already released as much as 13 players. Out of these players, five were regular first-team players.
“I expect a busy summer. We feel that changes need to be made. The last two seasons have not been up to the standards of what’s expected of the club, so recruitment now is going to be vital. There’s been a lot of talk about finances buwe we’re all right in terms of, I know where I am at the minute. That situation may improve, which would be great, but if it doesn’t then I know what spectrum I’m working in and we’ve identified a lot of players already,” said Lennon.
